Keeping A Burglar Away

Below are just a few tips on how to keep a burglar away.
Try making it hard for someone to hide themselves while breaking in. Avoid tall and thick shrubs or landscape around your windows and doors. Avoid privacy fences as neighbors cant see anything suspicious.
- Having good exterior lighting on a timer helps, but the best thing is a motion sensor floodlight. Or motion activated surveillance systems.
- Don’t leave anything in plain sight that might say “We have lots of $$$.” If you have an expensive car, keep it in a garage. If you have nice stuff in your house, keep your blinds closed or store it away. Or at least out of sight from the window if possible.
- Burglars stalk a neighborhood before they rob it. They know what time you leave on what day for work. They know when your neighbors leave for work. They watch closely to track the whole neighborhoods routine.
- If you have a security system, don’t put one of those “Protected by ADT” stickers on your door. Knowing which brand of security system can provide enough info on how to disable it. Don’t give any warning. Surprise would be the best right?
- Get a dog. The bark is more important than the bite. A little yappy dog can be more of a deterrent than a pit bull. Little dogs seem to be much more protective and alarming.
- Remember, the goal isn’t to make your house completely break in proof. It is simply to make your house a less attractive target than the other houses in your neighborhood. It is almost impossible to make a house completely break in proof unless you plan on dropping some serious dough. Look at the surrounding houses and adjust accordingly. Don’t be the lowest-hanging fruit on the block.
- And most of all make sure all your lock and key security is in good condition. Remember its going to take the burglar the longest to get through your door so a good key and lock system from a local locksmith is going to slow him down and potentially stop the burglar in his tracks.
